Derek K. Ndonye

Hi I am Derek K. Ndonye an accomplished corporate and Business lawyer based in Nairobi Kenya. I am a holder of a Bachelor of Law Honours degree (LLB)  from the University of Nairobi as well as a holder of Diploma in Law, from the Kenya School of Law. He has been in law practice since 1996 and is a Licensed Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. I am a member of several legal bodies both national and international namely: The Law Society of Kenya, the International Commission of Jurists (Kenya Chapter), the Institute of the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, the Kenya Institute of Management, the Institute of Credit Management, Rotary club and the Red Cross Society. I am also a Director of the Institute of Safety, Health & Environment Management and SHREQ Consultancy, which consults on safety, health & environment issues. He is married and is the father of two children. In my spare time, I engage in charitable activities and sports such as golf and swimming. Professional Experience I have extensive experience of court practice throughout Kenya having handled briefs in 80% of courts in Kenya. Since 1996, he has prepared and prosecuted to conclusion by trial or settlement, over 2000 commercial, debt collection and compensation cases in medical, industrial and motor claims. My knowledge of administrative procedures, rules of evidence and trial practice and procedures has been gained ve many years. I possess vast experience relating to the perfection of securities for financial institutions such as Equity Bank, K-Rep Bank, Housing Finance Company of Kenya Limited and Kenya Commercial Bank Limited. My working experience has included the drawing and registration of charges, discharges, debentures, guarantees and chattels mortgage instruments. As well Iam knowledgeable on contracts pertaining to the purchase and sale of properties by private treaty and attending to the completion of the relevant transfers. I gained working experience in debt collection and non-contentious commercial matters for the financial companies such as those aforementioned, and including G4S Security Kenya limited, Unga Limited, Chloride Exide Limited, Village Market Limited and Credit Reference Bureau. I have handled commercial matters relating to transfer of business agreements, memorandum of understanding agreements, service agreements, scheme administration agreements and pension scheme agreements on behalf of his clients. Other areas handled include insurance law having liaised, advised and guided insurance companies such as British American Insurance Company Limited, Lion of Kenya Insurance Company Limited, ICEA Company Limited, Madison Insurance Company Limited, Occidental Insurance Company Limited and Gateway Insurance Company Limited on the application of the Insurance law on insurance contracts, policies, agents, brokers, and generally on insurance business.
